Operation Safe Driver Week July 13–19, 2025: FMCSA Crackdown on Speeding & Safety Violations

July 13–19, 2025 marks Operation Safe Driver Week, a nationwide initiative where law enforcement across North America will be cracking down on dangerous driving behaviors.

But this week isn’t just about citations — it’s about protecting your license, your job, and your life.

What’s Happening on the Roads?

During this week, police officers and DOT inspectors will be actively monitoring:

  • Speeding

  • Distracted driving (phones, GPS, eating)

  • Seat belt violations

  • Tailgating or improper lane changes

  • Driving under the influence

If you’re behind the wheel — you’re being watched.

What’s In It for You?

Some drivers see safety weeks as a hassle. But let’s flip the script:

✅ Avoid Fines & Points: One ticket could cost you hundreds, and hurt your CDL score.

✅ Stay on the Road: A single violation could lead to downtime or even a suspension.

✅ Protect Your Company’s Safety Score: Which affects freight contracts, insurance rates, and more.

✅ Show You’re a Pro: Smart, alert driving gets noticed — by DOT and your dispatcher.

What You Should Do During Safe Driver Week

 1. Review your logs

  • Make sure your ELD is connected and up to date

  • Check for any unresolved malfunctions — report them ASAP

  • If malfunctioning, use paper logs for up to 8 days per FMCSA rules

2. Drive professionally

  • Don’t speed — not even 5mph over

  • Don’t rush lane changes or follow too close

  • Keep a calm, courteous driving attitude

3. Eliminate all distractions

  • Keep your phone out of reach or on Do Not Disturb

  • Set GPS and radio before driving

  • Avoid eating or multitasking behind the wheel

4. Buckle up every time

  • It takes 2 seconds. It saves lives.

  • DOT officers are looking for this — even in the yard or at fuel stops.

5. Expect more inspections

  • Have your license, registration, medical card, and logs ready

  • Keep your truck clean and DOT-compliant

  • Fix any minor violations that could trigger deeper inspection (lights, tires, reflectors, etc.)

Operation Safe Driver Week isn't about punishment — it’s about preventing tragedy. One bad decision can lead to a citation, a suspended CDL, or worse — a crash. But one smart choice — staying alert, slowing down, buckling up — can make all the difference.
